2019 Irrigation Preparations and a FB Contest

Irrigation Open Preparation:

Do you have irrigation issues at your home? Is your town continually plagued with water bans? Do you want to have and maintain beautiful lawns and flower beds throughout our hot South Shore Summers? Have you ever considered installing an irrigation system to minimize all of the above?

The folks here at Landscaping by J. Michael are serious about Water. Why, because we live here too. We’ve been installing underground sprinkler systems since 1991. Just as the industry was starting to expand and homeowners were starting to realize that water usage and retention was vital to the well-being of their lawns, shrubs and flowering beds.

Experienced Team:

Our decades of experience have helped us manage your custom watering requirements. Our team will meet with you to walk your property to fully understand your planting requirements. We will design, build, install and maintain the complete system. We offer complete comprehensive services to repair and maintain existing irrigation systems for residential, commercial and H.O.A. properties. Our team completely understands the importance of energy conservation, which directly impacts water usage and more importantly our water bills.

Spring Open Process:

Before the Spring Irrigation Open process begins, our techs use “Green” technologies such as water controllers, sensors and drip irrigation’s to ensure accuracy and efficiency. No wasted water. They will determine if the timing is right, they will run a check of the irrigation and controls program. It is crucial to confirm that the soil is frost-free for 12 inches deep. As frozen soil can lead to serious damage to your system. Once it’s determined that your property is cleared for Spring Open, our technician will perform all necessary tasks to ensure a smooth transition. This includes coordinating run times and days with your town’s parameters for sprinkler/water use. Our technician travel with a chart detailing various water codes for every local town in which we perform irrigation installations. It’s vital to keep in mind that although we would like to set the system to run at the times most convenient for our clients, the technicians must abide by the rules outlined by the town.

Controller Adjustments:

Adjusting the dates and settings on the controller, the tech will check to replace batteries, look for debris that could potentially obstruct even water flow. Confirm that all manual drain valves are turned to the “closed” position. Once these vital steps are completed, our team is ready to turn your irrigation system back on. We will be careful and patient for the next vital phase.

The Opening:

To start, our crew will slowly open the irrigation system’s main water valve, to allow water to fill the pipes gradually. Valves are a key component to the performance of an irrigation system. As they regulate the distribution of water throughout that system. When the valves are opened too quickly, the main lines are subjected to high surge pressure, uncontrolled flow, and the water hammer. Which yes, is just as bad as it sounds. Our experienced irrigation technicians know how to avoid costly damage to your system.

Also at this time, our team will walk through each station controller to check for proper operation of the zone, operating pressure, rotation, adjustment of sprinkler heads and adequate coverage. We will perform minor repairs, note any replacements needed and schedule major repairs to be taken care of in a timely fashion! Our team will notify you of any major issues that should be addressed.

Opening Aftermath:

By this point, we know you’re eager to start prepping for blossoming flowers and an enviable lawn. But there are just a few more items for our team to check off their list! Before starting up the system for the first time in the new spring season, our crew will perform a pressure check to ensure the pressure is appropriate for sprinkler systems. This final step can help to avoid broken valves, leaks, inefficient watering, cracked pipes and to save you money. Now, you’re well on your way to having the best looking property in town, and of course, we can help to maintain your system throughout the South Shore Summer season.
